Annie Jr

I haven't posted in some time. Actually I forgot my password. That's what happens as you get older. You start forgetting things. I have been working on a remodelling the house these last few months. We actually started the project before the big "ice storm". Then we had to use some weekends to clean up after that. Now, it seems, that we have so many other things to do. What was to be a quick project has turned into a loooong project. But, that's OK. I want to do it right. Finishing drywall can take a long time. (expecially if you want the walls to be smooth). Glenn and I went to see Micah last week in his first Broadway production of Annie Jr. He got the part of Sandy the dog. I thought he stole the show. (I guess all Nanas feel that way). He was so cute and he has no fear of getting up in front of a large crowd and performing. We are going to keep the grandchildren next week while Jamie takes a group of his youth to Jonathan Creek. I'm looking forward to that. I know Jamie will have fun with his group and we will have fun with the grandchildren. Later in the month Glenn and I will be headed to Amelia Island. We have never been there and are looking forward to the short trip. Of course, I will be in continuing education seminars, and he will be will my sister Debbie and her husband Roger, enjoying the ocean. We are also planning our fall trip to the mountains. We couldn't get the Cozy Bear View this year because someone had already booked it. The nerve.....that is the cabin we have been staying at for years. Anyway that forced us to look for another cabin. Hopefully we have made a wise choice. Glenn is supposed to call and book the cabin today. We have such a good time just relaxing and doing nothing.

My Heart Aches

Tuesday, John called me at work to let me know that he and Rachel had just been to their doctor's appointment. They did not hear a heartbeat on the baby. She was scheduled for a D&C the next day. My heart aches as I know theirs does.

Gypsy

I was on my way home from work Friday afternoon when I received a call from John. Their dog, Gypsy, had been hit by a car. They had to have her put down. Rachel was devastated. I feel so sorry for her because I know how I felt when my loving little pug "Winchester" was hit and killed one evening. The person did not even have the nerve to stop and tell me about it. I had to find him on the street. I think God has given some people a special heart when it comes to animals. Where would we be without man's best friend.
Gypsy was a rescue dog and they only had her for a couple months, but she left her mark on their hearts. We will miss you, Gypsy.

Rachel and John posted their first picture of the baby. Can't tell much now.

The last few days at work have been really tough. We have been working short staffed. To top it all have I have had a cold or some kind of virus this last week. Now Glenn has it.
On a positive note, Rachel had her first ultrasound. The baby's heart rate was 120. There is an old wives tale that says when the heart rate is less than 140 it is a boy. Maybe another Hughes boy in the making.

Nine months seems like a long time. John and Rachel are expecting their first baby in July 2009. When we heard the good news, Glenn said " I wonder whether its going to be a girl or a boy". Hannah says that they are going to have one of each. I am impatiently waiting for the birth of our fifth grandchild. I can't wait to hold it close and sing "You Are My Sunshine".

Last October I was informed that Micah was into Bakugan toys. What was that? I thought he was into Pokemon. Things change so quickly. So, for his birthday, Glenn and I head to the local Target store to find this Bakugan thing. Thankfully, Target had some and we quickly chose a tin filled with a couple brawlers and metallic cards. Micah was so excited. He played with those little balls off and on the rest of the day. It seems like Bakugan is a lot like the old marble games from days gone by. The Bakugans may be a little more expensive than marbles, or are they? I can remember my brother wanting some kind of special "cat eye" marble.

I thought that I would just run into Wal-Mart and get Micah some more Bakugans for Christmas. Not that easy!!!! It seems that everyone else wants these same things. You would think that they were a Wii. So, what do all good Nanas do? I resort to the internet.

But, I did find a Bakugan puzzle at Wal-Mart. I can remember putting puzzles together when I was a child. My father liked to put together puzzles. There were eight children so we didn't go out much. Our entertainment was a table full of popcorn and a puzzle. I always wanted to put the last piece of the puzzle in. Micah, Hannah and I put together this puzzle in no time, even though Micah kept saying "this puzzle is really hard".
